Sunday Services

At Seagate we love to meet together as a church to worship God every Sunday.

Each Sunday starts with Communion at 10.00am to which all believers who wish to remember our Lord Jesus are welcome. At this service anyone
is able to bring a prayer, a thought for the church or to request that a certain song is sung. There is a crèche for young children during this service.

At around 11.00am we break for coffee, tea, juice and biscuits in the back hall of the church. This is a great opportunity to catch up with friends or
to get to know others in the church.

At 11.30am we gather for the Family Service. We try to provide an interesting and relevant experience for all ages, so during this service younger people
leave to go to different parts of the building for crèche, Jam Time and GIG depending on their ages while the adults stay and listen to a talk. (See Kids / Youth Section for more info.)

We meet again at 6.30pm for worship and Bible Study at our Evening Service. This service varies from week to week; sometimes we have different prayer
stations, discussion groups or videos, but as with all our events nobody will ask you to do something you don’t feel comfortable with.

After this service there is usually Youth Fellowship for our young people (see the Youth Website for more info).

Christianity Explored

Christianity Explored is an informal course for people who’d like to investigate Christianity, or just brush up on the basics. It explores who Jesus was, what his aims were, and what it means to follow him.

You won’t be asked to pray, sing or read aloud, and you can ask any questions you like. Or, if you prefer, you can just come along and listen. Christianity Explored has been around for over a decade now, and it’s been designed to suit different age ranges and people.

If you would like more information about the course go to www.christianityexplored.org and if it looks like your sort of the thing get in touch via the details on the contact page.

Alpha

The Alpha course runs one night a week for ten weeks. Each night runs from 7.00 – 9.30 and includes dinner. For more information or to book your place contact Brian on 07912218550.

WHAT IS ALPHA?

The Alpha course is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith. It’s relaxed, low key, friendly and fun. There is a meal together at the beginning of each session which gives you an opportunity to get to know each other. Listen, learn, discuss and discover. And ask anything. Alpha is a place where no question is too stupid and all views are treated with respect. The Alpha course consists of a series of 10 videos looking at topics such as

  • Who is Jesus?
  • Why and how do I pray?
  • What is the point of life?
  • Why do people suffer?
  • What happens when we die?

After each talk we divide into small groups for a time of discussion.

There is no charge for the Alpha course, although you may be asked to make a contribution towards the day away.

House Groups

We believe that church should be more than just a Sunday service, so throughout the week some members of Seagate host house groups in their homes. Each group varies, but the usual line up involves study and discussion of the Bible, worship, prayer, coffee and cakes. These are great opportunities to develop friendships, worship with other Christians, learn more about the Bible and strengthen your relationship with God.

Each group enjoys a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and everyone is welcome to join in. House groups are normally held on a weeknight and run from about 7:30 to 9:30ish. If you’d like more information on a specific group, use the “contact” page to get in touch, or just come along to church and ask!

Women’s Group

The “Young Women’s Group”(maybe we should find a more imaginative title- suggestions on a postcard please!) meets every second Thursday evening in Iris’ home (The Pastor’s wife).

It starts at 8pm (ish) with coffee, tea, chocolate (very important!), and a chance to chill out and relax with each other.

We then spend some time in worship and prayer, and have been amazed at how God has met us, and answered many prayers over the years.

We also do Bible Studies, using various resources which enable us to apply God’s word to our daily lives.

Thursday evenings are a great opportunity for women to minister, support and encourage each other.

Men’s Group

The Men’s Group does exactly what it says on the tin. This is an opportunity for guys to meet together and support one another through life. Typically, the way this works is that we have a weekly meeting, where we discuss various topics from the Bible and relate them to our lives in order to enable us to have life in all its fullness.

Sporadically, we have social get-togethers which take various forms such as watching football, snooker tournaments and curry nights – in other words – guys stuff! In these, we don’t have a ‘formal’ discussion as such; rather just take these opportunities to cement positive relationships with one another.

The only qualification for coming is that you are male. You will not be required to do anything that you may be uncomfortable with, or forced to have certain views, rather you will be accepted for who you are and made to feel very welcome!

Seagate Football Club

Seagate has a football team which competes in the Strathclyde Churches League. But don’t be fooled – we don’t start off each game with a rendition of “Kumbaya My Lord” – the folk in the league take it pretty seriously. We have a good laugh playing the games and going out for the occasional curry. So if you are interested, get in touch.

We do training during the week and the games take place on Saturday mornings. If you would like any more information about this or are curious to see how we are getting on in the table, try the links below.

Pray For Schools

Prayer makes a difference! We have a group of church members, and other dedicated friends, who meet fortnightly to pray for the local schools and all the school-aged children and young people, as well as teachers and staff members who are associated with the church. This is under the auspices of Scripture Union, Scotland.

They pray for each person by name, and give special support to young people who are sitting exams. Prayer requests are often made and any specific prayer requests are always welcome. They are delighted to pray for any particular problems that may arise or to celebrate with you any significant achievements.

There is also an annual Prayer Day organised by the Schools Prayer Network to which Troon’s school teachers, church leaders, Scripture Union leaders, parents and children are invited.
